Festival O/Modernt

Since time immemorial the past has been a source of inspiration for artists working in every creative field. O/Modernt (Swedish for ‘Un/modern’) celebrates this ‘looking back’ to find imaginative renewal in the past by exploring the relationships between the work of early composers and the artistic and intellectual creations of modern culture — in music, art, dance, theatre, film, poetry, literature and scholarship. The O/Modernt spirit of reinvention finds special expression in a summer festival.

Staged in June at Ulriksdal Palace Theatre in Stockholm, Festival O/Modernt is the highlight of our season, where we assemble a wonderful array of artists from around the world to take part in concerts and arts events alongside emerging talents. The starting point for the weeklong schedule is a noted composer of the past, who is celebrated through imaginative programming and unusual artistic juxtapositions.
