Manobras is a festival happening in several Portuguese municipalities from the Artemrede network. Launched in 2017, Manobras mostly focuses on puppetry art, but it also programmes theatre, street arts and site specific performances, both indoors and outdoors, trying to create a link with the local material and immaterial heritage.
One of the festival's goals is audience development. Therefore, the programing tends to include artistic participatory projects strongly anchored in the territories. Moreover, part of the line-up is selected by groups of local citizens - most of them disconnected from the arts scene. Throughout the year these citizens meet to discuss and select the shows. They are coordinated by a local cultural mediator.
