The 26th edition of the International Photography festival of Noorderlicht will take place during October and November 2019 in Groningen. The theme of the main exhibition has the working title BIG. It deals with economies of scale, the concentration of power and capital in huge multinational corporations and the effects of this on our lives.

BIG examines the area of tension that has arisen between these global companies, politics and citizens. It shows a critical look at the power relations that now influence our lives at every level, from local to international. Large-scale production, referred to as ‘economies of scale’, seems to be a means of making products cheaper and within everyone's reach, with the result of a higher overall prosperity. But how does the unrestrained prioritisation of economic interests relate to moral behaviour, and what are the consequences for people and the environment?

Noorderlicht takes place in many venues throughout the city and province of Groningen.
