PELZVERKEHR

17 Sep 2019 - 27 Sep 2019
Klagenfurt, Austria

PELZVERKEHR is a festival for dance and performance in Klagenfurt/Celovec for local people, for those passing through and for guests. The festival is recognized as one of the main contemporary dance events in Carinthia/Koroška. Having emerged from a series of guest performances by the Klagenfurt City Council, since 2016 the culture initiative “Tanzamt Klagenfurt” has been organizing the festival in cooperation with “klagenfurter ensemble” in theaterHALLE11.

Once a year around the beginning of autumn PELZVERKEHR presents a programme lasting about two weeks with the current trends in dance and performance. The programme ranges from the aesthetically familiar to risk and experimentation. Formats centringon movement are as much in evidence as conceptual performances and Life Art. The social relevance of the artistic works emerges as the main theme.

PELZVERKEHR’s productions are aimed at adults. However, at least one dance performance makes some initial contact with youngsters: the public of the future. Geographically located in the Alps-Adriatic region, the festival always puts on contributions from Italy and Slovenia alongside productions from Austria.

Cooperation with performers from completely different dance backgrounds opens up the festival to other fields of artistic activity, such as literature, visual arts or film. The intermediary work in the form of artistic talks and workshops leads to a deepened involvement with the productions and should put paid to reservations concerning contemporary dance and performance.
